Last Friday, Feb. 17, Carthage hosted what is known as Eggs and Issues.  This event is hosted by the area Chambers of Commerce and are held once a month throughout the legislative session. The reason for the get togethers is to eat a good brunch, (eggs or in this case an egg casserole and biscuits and gravy provided by the ladies at Grace Pointe Assembly) and learn about the pending legislative happenings in Jefferson City (hence the issues).  This was the first of four meetings with updates given by our local State Senator and Representatives.
State Senator Ron Richard, President Pro Tem of the Senate talked about the passage of the Right To Work bill.  He has been working on this type of legislation for the past 15 years and discussed how this will help MO when companies are looking at relocating.
State Representative Cody Smith, who participated in his first Eggs and Issues, is on several important committees. They include Budget, Fiscal Review and Mental Health.  He is also vice chairman of the Subcommittee on Appropriations - Health, Mental Health, and Social Services.  He talked about it being a learning experience and was keeping his ears open so he can represent the 163rd District to the best of his ability.
State Representative Charlie Davis, Representative Mike Kelley, Representative Bill White and Representative Bill Reiboldt also discussed legislative bills they are involved in as well.  
Eggs and Issues is a great venue to be able to meet with our local group of legislative leaders and to ask questions or express concerns that you might have.  We have been very fortunate to have the great representation that we have experienced for many years.  These are quality individuals who are working for us.
Future dates for Eggs and Issues in the area are:  March 17 in Webb City, April 21 in Joplin and May 19 in Neosho.
