  • Youthful voices rang in the St. Luke's Nursing Center Wednesday. For the past two years, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has sponsored a monthly birthday bash at the facility as one of the church's several humanitarian projects. Last year, the church gave lap blankets to the residents, and this month, the party included cake, ice cream and many little visitors from the church's primary group, who sang some songs for the occasion.
“We look forward to it,” said Linda Dickerson, member of the church who attended the party. “It's always good to help.”
This project is appreciated at the center.
“It's been such a huge blessing,” said Stacy Bennett, activities director for St. Luke's.
Joining in the fun was Doris Spry, who turned 100 on July 8. As one of six residents celebrating a birthday this month, she played “Happy Birthday” on the piano.
Doris grew up in Webb City, and moved to Carthage when she married Monte L. Spry. They were married for more than 50 years. Together, they had six children. The family has now grown with 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
