  • Employees of Leggett & Platt Machine Products celebrated a kick-off event on Thursday for the Eco Initiative.
The 127 employees at the branch on West Fairview have gone through training sessions for the company-wide mission of “doing the right thing.” About 50 of the 76 manufacturing plants across the nation have completed the training that serves as a continuous effort to help preserve the environment by re-using, recycling and re-purposing materials.
The goal of the Eco Initiative is to educate the company's associates in processes that will be more efficient, reducing waste, and encouraging all employees to make suggestions on how to improve multiple productions.
Currently, the plant has already recycled 483,000 pounds of steel this year. They also recycle cardboard, oil, aluminum, paper and ink cartridges.
Machine Products designs and manufactures assemblies and components, as well as finished machines that serve many industries worldwide. Along with the Carthage branch, Machine Products has manufacturing facilities in Monterrey, Mexico; Prelog, Croatia; and Shanghai, China.
After gaining more experience with the Eco Initiative, the committee will share knowledge with other locations to continue the positive environmental impact.
