  • Two Joplin area men have been charged with numerous felonies in connection with burglaries in the Hidden Acres, Southwind and Breckenwood additions in Carthage as well as burglaries in Carl Junction and Joplin.
Carthage Police announced the arrest of Justin Rankin, 35, Joplin and Kristoffer May, 39, Airport Drive for a number of burglaries that happened in late May and early June.
Rankin was arrested on June 2 at his home in Joplin and is being held on $10,000 surety and $1,500 cash bonds on felony charges of burglary and possession of stolen property. He was arraigned this morning in Jasper County Associate Circuit Court in Joplin.
May was arrested on Tuesday and faces felony charges of second degree burglary, receiving stolen property, two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm and one of possession of marijuana.
May was also arraigned this morning and is being held on $25,000 surety and $5,000 cash bonds.
Police said when announcing Rankin's arrest that they had received reports of thefts from vehicles and burglaries in the Southwind Acres and Breckenwood additions in Carthage.
They said Carthage detectives with help from the Carl Junction police department developed Rankin as a suspect and, with the assistance of Joplin police, served a search warrant on a home at 2501 S. Virginia Ave in Joplin. Rankin was arrested and "multiple items from the thefts were found at his residence."
In a second written release sent out on Wednesday, Carthage police said May was developed as a suspect working with Rankin in many of the burglaries.
On Monday, officers went to his residence in Airport Drive where several stolen items, including loaded pistols and a shotgun, tools and other items were found.
Officers also found methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia at the home.
"Currently, detectives are inventorying the suspected property and trying to link (items) to victims so the property can be returned," police said in their release. "So far we have linked stolen items to Hidden Acres Breckenwood addition and Southwind Acres in Carthage and a burglary in Carl Junction and Joplin. If you would like to know if we have your property, please contact Det. Jeff Steffen or Det. Ben Vogt at Carthage PD. 237-7200."
