  • It all depends on the weather but Kids Fishing Day is tentatively on for Saturday morning.
The Kellogg Lake Nature Center Advisory Board said they plan to have bait and try to feed everyone at the park from 8 a.m. to noon.
Jim Crocker, vice president of the Kellogg Lake Board said the event could still be called off if storms with lightning and thunder hit in the morning, but plans are to hold the event without the educational booths and other displays that are normally held in the grass between near the pavilion on the lake shore.
Crocker said it's too swampy to set up the booths. Another complication is that some of the roads in the park will also still be closed because of flooding.
The Carthage Rotary Club is supposed to bring hot dogs and drinks, but whether those will be available will depend on the weather as well.
The west entrance to the park, on Esterly Drive, will probably still be closed. Volunteers will direct drivers to park on the east side of the lake at the entrance near County Route V and the Flying W convenience store.
Parking will likely be tight and limited because the ground is too soft to park cars in the grass. Crocker said kids should still come over to the pavilion and register because the board plans to give away a number of door prizes. Children up to age 15 must be registered in order to be eligible for prizes.
Bait will also be available. People are encouraged to bring their own fishing gear because the number of poles available for loaning will be limited. We'll update if we hear more from the board.
