  • Don’t procrastinate with your taxes this year.
Help on filing these taxes is available again this year by Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) for taxpayers with annual income of less than $52,000.
Location of this site has moved to the Carthage Public Library, 612 S. Garrison in Carthage. The Carthage VITA site opened at the Library on Feb. 12 and will prepare returns on Wednesdays 1-4:30 p.m.  and Saturdays 9 a.m. -12:30 p.m. until the end of tax season. The last chance to benefit from this service is April 12.
Returns will be prepared by volunteers and will be electronically filed at no charge. Direct Deposit to a bank account can be arranged. Tax returns will be prepared by appointment only and can be made by calling Sandy at (417) 388-2068. Federal and State Income taxes will be prepared.
If required, a Federal return should be prepared before the State return, as information from the Federal return is needed to complete the State Return.
If you need to file a Missouri Property Tax/Rent Rebate (PTC) only, these returns will also be prepared. Taxpayers should bring picture identification, Social Security cards for all persons listed on the return, and all documents needed to prepare their return. This might include: W-2 forms from employment, 1099 INT forms from interest earned, 1099 DIV forms from dividends earned, 1099R forms from retirement income, 1099 Misc. for self employment and 1099SSA forms from Social Security, All income must be reported on your return. Make sure you have all you respective forms before you come to get your taxes filed.
The Carthage VITA tax site is part of the SWMO We Care Coalition with volunteers trained by the IRS, which also provides the computer program. Carthage Public Library donates the space. MSSU hosts the training sessions.
