  • Carthage wrestling team in second place at district tournament

  • Trailing only familiar foe Neosho, the Carthage wrestling team sits in second place after day one of the Class 3, District 3 tournament in Branson this weekend.

    Carthage tallied 64 team points on Friday, good for second among 15 schools. Neosho sits in first with 90.5 points, and the rest of the top five consists of Lebanon (58.5), Willard (44.5) and Rolla (40).

    Carthage tallied 64 team points on Friday, good for second among 15 schools. Neosho sits in first with 90.5 points, and the rest of the top five consists of Lebanon (58.5), Willard (44.5) and Rolla (40).
    Webb City is currently sixth and Carl Junction 13th. The tournament continues on Saturday, with semifinal and championship matches, as well as the conclusion of the consolation brackets.
    At 113 pounds, Dakota Jones received a bye in the first round, then won by major decision, 9-0, against Camdenton’s Zion Vasquez in the quarterfinals. He will wrestle Lebanon’s Logan Beushausen in the semifinals.
    River Maggard won twice at 126 pounds, first by fall in 2:40, then by fall in 2:27 in the quarterfinals against Carl Junction’s Jeremiah Tyner. Maggard will take on Parkview’s Ryan Carroll in the semifinals.
    Seth Logan, now 28-2, pinned Republic’s Christian Richardson in 14 seconds, then won by technical fall, 17-2, against Rolla’s Ryan Markovic in the 132-pound bracket. Logan will take on Neosho’s Isaac Townsend in the semifinals.
    Tyler Harden received a first-round bye at 138 pounds, then beat Parkview’s Chase Coffman by technical fall, 16-1, in the quarterfinals. Harden will take on Willard’s Kyle Caldwell in the semifinals.
    At 145 pounds, Edxel Morales won by 11-4 decision, then pinned Neosho’s Cody Rains in the quarterfinals. He will take on Willard’s Connar Loderhose in the semifinals.
    Skyler Bloomer improved to 31-9 with two wins at 182 pounds. He pinned Hillcrest’s James Hunt in 55 seconds, then won by fall against Branson’s Christian Robertson in 4:28. Bloomer will wrestle Neosho’s Jacob Brock in the semifinals.
    Blaine Perry won both of his matches at 285 pounds, pinning Mac County’s Kyle Hall in 49 seconds, then beating Parkview’s James Consteble by fall in 3:15. He will take on Glendale’s Max Oeser in the semifinals.
    Other results:
    At 106 pounds, Ervin Cosagua won by fall, then lost by fall in the quarterfinals.
    Brant Brown received a bye, but was pinned in the quarterfinals. 
    Tom Simmons split two matches at 152 pounds, losing 9-2, then winning by pin in 3:53 in the consolation bracket.
    Kale Vogt overcame a round-one loss by fall to pin his consolation round opponent in 2:20 at 160 pounds.
    At 170 pounds, Gage Bloomer lost by fall in round one, but rebounded to win by pin in the first round of the consolation bracket.
    Darrell Dardenne lost by fall in round one, then pinned his opponent in 3:25 in consolation round one at 195 pounds.
