  • With 15 days remaining in the Carthage Salvation Army's annual holiday Bell Ringing Campaign, the group is more than halfway to its $98,000 goal.
Salvation Army Lt. Julie Trapp said the group had raised $51,000 as of Sunday, and asked for the community's help to reach its goal.
“This past year, The Salvation Army has experienced a continuing increase in need for services, making the need for funding even greater,” Trapp said. “With more than $52,000 to be raised in the next few days, your help is still needed to ensure quality programs and services for the coming year. Thank you for considering The Salvation Army as you make your yearend charitable gift.”
Trapp said the Salvation Army's Christmas campaign continues to help families in need during the holidays, even as the group plans for meeting continuing needs throughout the year.
“Donations to The Salvation Army Christmas Campaign help provide Christmas food baskets, toys for children, delivery of gifts to nursing homes and shut-ins, and community holiday meals,” Trapp said. “Funds also support the year round programs and services such as our community meal program, food pantry, rent and utility assistance, youth programs, summer camp and much more.”
Trapp issued a challenge to the Carthage community she called the $20/20 Challenge. She asked residents to consider stuffing the red kettles with $20 bills on Friday, Dec. 20.
Trapp also said the Salvation Army could use more toys, especially for for boys ages 7-10 and girls ages 9-12, to be given out at their annual Christmas present distribution on Friday.
The campaign continues until after Christmas with bell ringers at various Carthage businesses. Donations may be mailed to PO Box 528 or dropped off at our office at 125. E. Fairview St.
