  • Southwick, Hensley qualify for sectional race

  • Carthage will send two runners to the Class 4, Sectional 3 cross country race next weekend in Camdenton.

    Seniors Ben Southwick and Carter Hensley finished in the top 30 at Saturday’s Class 4, District 6 race at Lake Springfield. Southwick posted a time of 17:33.46 to place ninth, and Hensley finished 26th with a time of 18:14.96. The top 30 runners in the field of 73 qualify for the sectional race.

Southwick posted a time of 17:33.46 to place ninth, and Hensley finished 26th with a time of 18:14.96. The top 30 runners in the field of 73 qualify for the sectional race.
    Sophomore Eli Wells placed 46th in 19:05.34, freshman Clay Hensley finished 49th in 19:11.68, sophomore Riley Schmidt was 55th in 19:18.49, junior Jared Golden took 64th in 20:27.68, and junior Adolfo Reyes placed 69th in 21:56.46.
    Carthage took ninth in the team standings, with Kickapoo, Joplin, Nixa, Webb City and Ozark earning the top five spots. Joplin senior Matt Riechman-Bennett won the individual title with a time of 16:31.40, and Kickapoo placed three runners in the top 10.
    Freshman Grant Miller was Webb City’s top runner, placing 20th in 18:10.05.
    In the girls’ race, Carthage junior Bree Smart finished 39th with a time of 23:22.62, sophomore Kaytin Conness took 41st in 23:40.08, and sophomore Dasha Leonteyva finished 57th in 25:30.05.
    Branson freshman Adeline Holder was the top individual, posting a time of 20:35.90, and Webb City senior Natalie Capron finished seventh in 21:08.62.
    Branson was tops in the team standings, followed by Nixa, Kickapoo, Ozark, Webb City, Neosho, Republic, Parkview, Joplin and Willard.
