  • Elmer “Forrest” Smith, 77, passed away Oct. 18, 2013 at his home in Carthage, Mo.
    Forrest was born in Mauriceville, Texas, to Claude Smith and Gattis Neel Smith and Step-Dad Kasey Luman.
    Forrest was a Carthage area resident for the past one and a half years. He was a full time RV’er for the past 8 years with his home base in Pensacola, Fla.
    Forrest was an aircraft mechanic retiring form Trans World Airlines after 25 years of service.
    Forrest served in the Navy as a Seabee for 12 years, serving in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He attended the Bethel Methodist Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star.
    Forrest was united in marriage to Gail Maschmeier Nov. 30, 1975 in Kansas City, Mo. She survives.
    Forrest is also survived by one Sister Margret Bridgeman, four children Robert Smith and wife Terri, Winston Smith and wife Meta, Jamie Lester and husband Chuck and Leslie Venables and husband David; seven grandchildren and five great grand children, nieces and nephews.
    Private family services were held. Online condolences may be made at www.ulmerfh.com. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Ulmer Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Ulmer Funeral Home Carthage, Mo.
