My name is Dennis Miller and I am a lifelong resident of Kirksville, MO. I have been totally blind since birth and a sports fanatic just as long. I like all sports but love baseball and am a proud lifelong member of Cardinal Nation. It is my honor to be given the opportunity to write a blog for the Kirksville Daily Express and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it.

Another jam packed weekend of sports is upon us and there is certainly no shortage of activities to partake in either in person or on TV.  It would be almost impossible to include everything but let’s try to take things in order and we’ll at least hit the high points.

Game 6 of the National League Championship Series is tonight as the series has switched back to Bush Stadium as the Cardinals take a 3 games to 2 lead into tonight’s game with the Dodgers.  Game 5 was over in my opinion in the first inning with the Cardinals had the bases loaded with nobody out and couldn’t score.  They did mount a comeback late in the game but it wasn’t enough to catch the Dodgers.  Tonight’s pitching matchup is a dandy as the Dodgers send their ace Clayton Kershaw to the mound to face the Cardinals rookie sensation Michael Wacha who has pitched extraordinarily well during the post season.  Even with the loss in Game 5 on Wednesday I still think the Cardinals have the momentum and I like their chances.  I don’t think we are going to see a repeat of last year when they were one win away for the world series and couldn’t get that final win.

The Kirksville High School Tigers play their final regular season home game tonight at Spainhower Field as the Trenton Bulldogs come to town.  The Tigers are riding a two game winning streak into tonight’s game which if they can win will even their record at 4 and 4.  KHS has in my opinion an excellent opportunity to win tonight and next week as well on the road at Fulton which would give them a 5 and 4 records and a winning season for the first time in a while.  I like the way the Tigers have played of late and their defense has really improved as Mexico was a very quality opponent.  Hopefully the rain will either stay away or be over with and it will be an excellent night to get out and see this team in action.

The KHS golf team is also in action this weekend as they compete in the state golf tournament.

This is homecoming weekend for Truman State and it is jam packed with most of the fall sports being in action over the next two days.  Both the men’s and women’s soccer teams are in action this afternoon and the women’s swimming team and the women’s volleyball team are both in action this evening at Pershing Arena.  All these teams are performing at a very high level so this weekend would be an excellent opportunity to get out and see some excellent volleyball, swimming, and soccer.

Saturday is even busier with the Missouri Tigers putting their #14 ranking on the line against the Florida Gators.  The game for some inexplicable reason appears to only be available as part of the ESPN Game Plan PPV package which is simply amazing to me.  Both Mizzou and Florida are ranked, the Tigers are undefeated and coming off a huge upset victory over Georgia, despite the fact Florida’s offense is riddled with injuries the Florida Gators are still a national brand, but yet you either have to pay to watch the game or watch it on your computer assuming you can figure out how to get ESPN3 to work.  To add insult to injury there are lesser games on ESPN, ESPN2, CBS, and just about every other outlet that carries college football at the same time Mizzou is playing Florida.  Go figure!

The Truman State Bulldogs football team plays their homecoming game at 2:00 at Stokes Stadium against McKendrie as the Bulldogs look for their third victory in a row and look to remain undefeated in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.  The Bulldogs have had two easy games in their first two GLVC contests and although this week looks to be a little tougher I think they will come out of the game victorious.  The defense has really improved over the last few weeks and the offense continues to look good.  Truman brings a 4 and 2 record into tomorrow afternoon’s game which will also see the inductees in the Truman State Bulldogs Hall of Fame being introduced at halftime.

In addition to the football team the women’s volleyball team is also in action as well tomorrow and I believe there is soccer action as well.

The Kirksville High School cross country team will be participating in the North Central Missouri Conference cross country meettomorrow as well.

Game 7 of the NLCS would be tomorrow night as well if it is needed but it won’t be.  At least I hope not.

NASCAR is also in action tomorrow as the truck take center stage for the running of the Fred’s 250.  I have no idea who Fred is but I’m glad he has his own race.  I have a call into NASCAR asking about having my own race next year but I doubt they will go for it since I told them that I didn’t want Jeff Gordon in it.  Stay tuned for more details about that.

Game 6 of the American League Championship Series will either be tomorrow afternoon or tomorrow night depending on what happens tonight in the NLCS.  The Boston Red Sox take a three games to two lead into that game which will be played at Fenway Park in Boston.

On Sunday we will find out if the Kansas City Chiefs can remain undefeated as the battered, bruised, and totally demoralized Houston Texans make their way to Arrowhead Stadium.  The Texans are starting a rookie quarterback against what has to be the best defense in the NFL while the Chiefs offense really needs to have a good showing here.  The Chiefs defense is what has propelled them to a 6 and 0 record but in order for this team to be a complete team they need to get better production out of their offense in my opinion.  Keep in mind the Chiefs have yet to play a top quality team.  Being as bad as they were last year has given them an easy scheduled this year.  Their offense needs to improve and involve more people than Alex Smith and Jamaal Charles for this team to be successful later on this season when they play the Broncos, Chargers, and Colts among others.  The Texans are so beaten down right now they should be a good team to work on some things with.

The St. Louis Rams are on the road this week to play the Carolina Panthers.  The Rams come into the game with a 3 and 3 record and will be going for their third win in a row against the Panthers who are 2 and 3 and do not look particularly impressive.  That being said, you never know which Rams team is going to show up so this game could go either way.  The Rams are better but it’s till unclear how much better than they were last year.

NASCAR has a Sprint Cup race on Sunday as the Camping World (dealers) 500 will be run.  I wrote the race title exactly as it was written on the schedule by the way.  There is no word whether Fred will be there or not.  If they let me put my name on a race I would go to the next day’s race even though my name wasn’t on it but I’m not Fred.

Game 7 of the ALCS between the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers will also be played Sunday evening if necessary.

We’ll be back on Monday with a look back at all of this weekend’s sports action and a look ahead to another busy week next week.  Thanks for reading this blog and please take the time to check out all the other excellent blogs on this site.  Please follow me on Twitter at: KDEBlog.
