  • Willodean E. Johnson, 83, Carthage, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013 in St. Luke’s Nursing Center, Carthage. 
    Willodean Elizabeth Clanton was born Nov. 30, 1929 in Seligman, Mo., the daughter of the late Edgar Ray Clanton and Clara Hency Clanton.
    She and her family moved to Carthage in 1942, where she attended school and graduated Carthage High School, Class of 1947. She married Harold Glenn Johnson on Sept. 23, 1950 in Huntsville, Ark.; he preceded her in death on Sept. 16, 1996. Willodean was a member of the First Baptist Church, Carthage, was a volunteer for the Can Do Senior Citizens Center and a volunteer for the Stone’s Throw Theater.
    She was an office manager for Scott’s Department Store, 1946, Rogers Office Products, 1964-1975, Ben Franklin Variety Store, 1975 – 1980, Belk Simpson Department Store, 1982 – 1985, Ladies Peddler Clothing, 1986 – 1996, Hallmark Store and the former Sassy Spoon.
    Survivors include a son, Carol Glenn Johnson and wife, Terri, Industry, Texas and a son, Wesley B. Johnson, and wife, Mary, Carthage; a sister, Carolyn Smith and husband, Max, Carthage; seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren; her special companion, Herb Erwin, Carthage, several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a son, Kenton Scott Johnson, and a sister, Marena Ann Clanton.
    Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 4 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. 
    Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 5 at the First Baptist Church, Carthage. Rev. John Davidson will officiate. 
    Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Carthage. Memorial gifts are suggested to the CAN DO Senior Citizens Center, Carthage. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary. com.
