A Webb City man will serve 20 years in prison for beating a Carthage man to death during a dispute at a home east of Joplin in September 2011.
Ronald G. Inman, 32, of Webb City pleaded guilty in July to voluntary manslaughter as a prior and persistent offender in the 2011 death 43-year-old Travis Weaver. Inman had been charged with second-degree murder.
On Monday, Jasper County Circuit Court Judge David Dally sentenced Inman to 20 years in prison.
Prosecutors say Weaver died of blunt-force trauma to his head suffered during a dispute with Inman at a home near 20th Street and Kenser Road east of Joplin.
Deputies at the time of the incident said they found a piece of wood that may have been used to cause Weaver's death.
Inman claimed he hit Weaver in self-defense as Weaver came at him with a knife. But a detective testified at an earlier hearing that no knife was found and blood evidence suggested Weaver was hit while he sat in a chair.
