  • Barbara Anne Sweeney was born Aug. 7, 1936 to William Newton and Mabel (Roy) Banta in Billings, Mont. She passed away 6:55 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013 at her residence in rural Jasper, Mo.
    She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Bob Banta and her three sisters Hazel Wyrick, Freda Tulp and Joyce Tubaugh. Barbara shared 77 years, one month and one day with us.
    Barbara spent her early life living in Billings, Mont., and Golden City, Mo. She married Clarence Gerald Sweeney on July 3, 1957 in Miller, Mo. Barbara belonged to the Stone Club, United Methodist Women, the Order of the Eastern Star—Mt. Hope #74 in Lamar, Mo., and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Golden City. She also was instrumental in the Jasper Boy and Girl Scout troops when her children participated. Barbara enjoyed crocheting, quilting, reading books, doing crossword puzzles and sewing which she made much of her own cloth-ing. But most of all she loved babying “Clarence”.
    Barbara is survived by her husband, Clarence Sweeney, Jasper, Mo.; her four children Mark (Karen) Sweeney, Rose-ville, Calif.; Tina (Skip) Felkner, Lamar, Mo.; Jeff (fiancée Barbara Bradley), Carthage, Mo., and Nancy Thomas, Jasper, Mo.; her sisters, Margie Hay, Denver, Colo., Betty Wester, Billings, Mont., Janet Tubaugh, Golden City, Mo., and Rita (Bill) Johnson, Carthage, Mo., her eight grandchildren, Rosanna Jordan, Melissa Felkner, Jennifer Doerr, Crystal Felkner, Kris-tina Nuse, Pamela Austin, Joey Thomas and Kelly Thomas; her great-grandchildren, Jeremy and Miranda, Doerr, Christopher and Taddeo Nuse and Zoey Austin, and her step-great-grandchildren Chris and Wes Doerr. Other family mem-bers, friends and neighbors will fondly remember this caring and loving woman.
    Memorial service 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, United Methodist Church in Golden City, MO. Visitation 1 p.m. on Saturday at the church. Arrangements under direction of Pugh Funeral Home, Golden City.
