  • Gracie Mae Maxwell, 95, Carthage, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013 in St. Luke’s Nursing Center, Carthage. 
    Gracie Mae McCoy was born Aug. 16, 1918 in Maple Grove, Mo., the daughter of the late Albert Newton McCoy and Bertha (Edde) McCoy.  She moved to Carthage with her parents in 1920 from Maple Grove.  She married Lon A. Maxwell on Feb. 23, 1940 in Carthage; he preceded her in death on March 16, 1982.  Gracie was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church, Carthage.
    Survivors include a daughter; Deloris Grace Hurrell, Carterville, Mo; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.  
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Lon; two sisters, Evelyne Brooks and Leona Barnes; three brothers, Roland, Robert and Eddie McCoy; two great-great-grandchildren.
    Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3 in Oak Hill Cemetery, Carthage.  
    Rev. Ron Franklin will officiate. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com.
