The search continued late Thursday for a man suspected of stabbing another man just outside the Carthage city limits on Country Club Road.
Jasper County Sheriff's Capt. Derek Walrod said officers were still searching for Alex “ Paco” Martinez, 36, Webb City as of about 6 p.m. on Thursday.
Walrod said the last report he had was that the victim, whose name he could not release, was still in serious condition at a Joplin hospital.
The victim was taken by medical helicopter to the hospital after the stabbing at around 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The incident happened at 1581 S. Country Club Road west of the city limits.
Walrod said Martinez and the victim were acquaintances and got into an argument when the stabbing occurred.
Walrod said sheriff's investigators were still interviewing at least two or three witnesses to the incident.
“We've interviewed them once and I think we're going back to talk to them again,” Walrod said on Wednesday.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking if anyone has information on Martinez’s whereabouts, to please call 417 359-9100 or call the TIPS line 417-781-TIPS (8477).
The incident was the start of a flurry of activity in Carthage that saw law officers arrest several people Wednesday evening, including Shawn D. Winkfield-Maynard, who was wanted in Buchanan County for a charge of involuntary manslaghter in the death of his 8-month-old son earlier this month.
Winkfield-Maynard was still being held in the Jasper County Jail in Carthage awaiting extradition to Buchanan County. Bond on his charge was $75.000.
