Steve Swearengen was one big winner at the fifth annual Fall Ball Fall, a fund raiser for the Fair Acres Family Y, held at the Carthage Municipal Golf Course.
Ball No. 279, bought by Swearengen from Danny Ross, was the first ball to fall into the center cup out of more than 500 balls that were dropped from a bag at the event, held Saturday, netting him $1,000.
The other big winner was the Family Y's scholarship program which, after expenses were taken out, netted $5,925 to help young people attend programs at the Y.
More than 100 people attended the event, which featured free hot dogs and other snacks and a number of golf-related contests.
Seven people took home eight $25 prizes when their balls fell into side holes around the $1,000 center hole. Those were Kim Lucas, Brenda Waggoner, Greg Soriano, who had two balls fall into different holes and won twice, Kelly Locarni, Jerry Patton, Gary Cole and Brenday Holt.
Aaron Bard won the Poker Chip Challenge with three aces and a 3 kicker for $100, Steve Thomas won a triple playoff in the putting contest to take home $100, and Mike Jones drove his ball less than a foot from the pin to win $100.
Ticket sales totaled $5,501, sponsorships totaled $2,000 and expenses totaled $1,576 for a net profit of $5,925 for the event.
