John E. Russow, 88, passed away at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Mo., on Aug. 7, 2013. John was born on Oct. 3, 1924 to Daniel and Sally (Ford) Russow in Bentonville, Ark.
He was a machinist at Steadley Manufacturing for 34 years retiring in 1987. John served in the United States Army during World War II. He served in the European Theatre and as Sergeant First Class Company A 9th Battalion 20th Armed Division.
John was a very active member of the Masonic Order. He was ins. In La Russell Lodge No. 592, A.F.A.M on April 5, 1969, passed F.C. June 9, 1969, raised M.M. on July 17, 1969, elected Master of La Russell Lodge in 1972, affiliated Carthage 1972-1973, elected Master of Carthage Lodge in 1988, appointed D.D. G. L 44th District 1990-1991, a member of the O.E.S. Worthy Patron 1975, 1978, 1989, a member of the Scottish Rite Valley, Joplin and a member of the Abou Ben Adam Shrine Temple, Springfield, Mo.
John was married to Susie Matney on March 29, 1947 in Columbus, Kan. She survives.
Other survivors include one son John Russow of Carthage, one sister Pauline DeNayer of Webb City, one grandson Kevin, three granddaughters Mary, Jennifer, and Susan, five great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter.
John was preceded by his parents, one daughter Patricia K. “Trent” Russow, two brothers Charley and Paul Russow, and eight sisters Gladys, Cinda, Dorothy, Obie, Elva, Martha, Mary, and Rosie.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, 2013 at the Ulmer Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013 from 2-4 p.m. at the Ulmer Funeral Home. Burial will be at Park Cemetery in Carthage, Mo.
