  • Fans of The Bridge, have no fear! Unlike AMC's The Killing, the FX drama will provide a resolution for the central mystery before next season. In fact, The Bridge will "put it away in dramatic fashion before the end of the season," executive producer Elwood Reid promised at the Television Critics Association fall previews on Friday. FX casts Billy Bob Thornton in Fargo limited seriesOn the series, which is based on the Danish/Swedish TV series of the same name, detectives Sonya Cross (Diane Kruger) and Marco Ruiz (Demian Bichir) investigate a serial killer who's been dispatching women on both sides of the Texas-Mexico border in El Paso and Juarez, respectively. "Everything is connected," Reid said. "The thing that's taking place radically changes the lives of our characters. The killer, in a way, connects all the characters." Executive producer Meredith Stiehm said that once that mystery ends, the final two or three episodes of Season 1 will introduce what will take place in Season 2, which will focus more on the systems: "the factories, the military, the police." Instead of focusing on killer, however, Season 2 will explore a variety of things that make the locale unique, a la The Wire. All this talk of a second season may seem premature since FX has yet to announce a renewal, but the prospects look good. Once The Bridge's significant DVR ratings are added in, its numbers increase between 85 and 88 percent, which puts the series on par with FX's other popular showsThe Americans and Justified. The Bridge airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on FX.
