A great run by the 11 players on the Carthage 11-under all-star baseball team came to an end on Saturday.

Carthage's Missouri state champion team lost 12-0 to the all-stars from Bismarck, N.D. in the double-elimination Cal Ripken League Midwest Regionals in Waite Park, Minn.

Carthage's Bryce Pugh earned individual honors, being named to the all-tournament team.

Green said the team played hard in that final game, but they ran into a tough pitcher.

“He was in control all the way,” Green said. “The boys played hard and I couldn't be prouder of them.”

Green said Carthage lost a heart-breaker in the opening game early Friday, but bounced back later in the day to stay alive to play on Saturday.

Green said his team had a 8-5 lead going into the sixth and final inning of the game, but two errors and a couple of well-placed bloop hits allowed the team from Bemidji, Minn., to come back for the 9-8 win. Carthage came back in the late Friday game to beat the Kansas all-stars 11-6.

“I'm extremely proud of this team,” Green said. “They did a great job as a team. There are always standouts in every game, but getting this far was a total team effort.”
