A Carthage girl was killed in a one-vehicle crash on Thorn Road just east of Interstate 49 near Jasper shortly before midnight Tuesday night.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Marissa E. Russow, 17, was thrown from her 1999 Honda Accord when the vehicle ran off the road and overturned.
The patrol said Russow was not wearing a seatbelt and was driving west on Thorn Road when it ran off the right side of the road.
Russow was declared dead at the scene by the Jasper County Coroner's Office.
The Jasper Fire Department was first on the scene, according to a statement on the department's Facebook page, and found the car overturned in the ditch.
A Mercy McCune-Brooks Hospital ambulance and the Jasper County Sheriff's Office were also dispatched to the scene.
“Personnel controlled the vehicle hazards and searched the area to make sure that there were no other patients,” the Jasper Fire Department said on its Facebook page. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of this tragic event.”
Russow was taken to Knell Mortuary in Carthage.
