  • Two Carthage residents were involved in a traffic crash on Thursday in Labette County, Kan., that claimed the lives of two Vinita, Okla., residents.
The accident happened at 7:19 p.m. on Thursday on U.S. Highway 400 at the intersection of Kiowa Road about three miles west of Parsons, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol online crash report.
Killed in the crash were the driver, Janice Hensley, 57, and passenger, Jackie Hensley, 40, both of Vinita.
Another passenger, Rebecca Hensley, 15, Vinita, was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Tulsa.
The Kansas patrol's report said the Hensley car was traveling north on Kiowa Road when they failed to yield and pulled in front of the eastbound truck and tractor trailer driven by Earnest Vaile, 62, Carthage. He and his passenger, Ginver Vaile, also 62, Carthage, were not injured.
Vaile's truck hit Hensleys' car in the driver’s side door, sending the two vehicles off the road and into the ditch on either side of the road.
