A Carthage man is dead after colliding with a tractor trailer Wednesday afternoon on I-44 near Vinita, Okla., in Craig County, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Ethan Scott Giett, 23, Carthage, was killed in the crash that occurred at 4:19 p.m. Wednesday at mile marker 289 in Craig County.
The patrol said Giett was declared dead at the scene. The other driver, Matthew Allen Baker, 30, Monroe City, Mo., was not hurt in the crash.
Oklahoma troopers said Giett was driving his 2008 Lincoln MKZ west in the eastbound lanes of traffic when it struck the drivers side rear wheel of Baker's tractor trailer.
Giett's vehicle spun off the road overturning several times down a hill and ejecting the driver from a window.
Troopers had no information as of Thursday as to why Giett was driving the wrong way on the interstate or a cause of the accident. Giett's body was taken to the medical examiner's office in Tulsa.
