  • Sharon F. Calvin of Monett, Mo., passed away at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2013 while in the Carthage Healthcare in Carthage, Mo., after a courageous battle with cancer.

  • Sharon F. Calvin of Monett, Mo., passed away at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2013 while in the Carthage Healthcare in Carthage, Mo., after a courageous battle with cancer. Sharon was born Nov. 15, 1946 in LaRussell, Mo., to Jesse and Lorene Marie (Duncan) Calvin. She was the ninth child of 12 children. She attended Southwest Missouri State University, in Springfield, Mo., and obtained her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. She taught most of her career in the Monett area schools. Sharon was a very kind and generous person and almost never met a stranger. She enjoyed growing and comparing flowers with others. She was a member and Deaconess at the First Christian Church in Monett and a member of the Martha’s Circle. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Marie Calvin; and two brothers, Jesse (JT) Calvin and Kenneth Calvin; and one brother-in-law, Clarence Kelly. Survivors include five brothers, Herman Calvin and wife Barbara, of Carthage, Mo., Donald Lee Calvin and wife Carolyn, of Springfield, Mo., Stanley Calvin and wife Janice of Sarcoxie, Mo., Sammy Calvin and wife Carolyn, of Joplin, Mo., and Walter Calvin and wife Karen, of Freistatt, Mo.; four sisters, Wilma Cleous and husband Howard, of Garden Plain, Kan., Wanda Smith and husband Jack of Carthage, Mo., Dorothy Kelly of Kansas City, Mo., and Marlene Klock and husband Michael, of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Calvin, of Republic, Mo., and Marilyn Calvin, of Mt. Vernon, Mo.; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She will be missed by many dear friends that knew her and loved her. Funeral services for Sharon will be held at 1:30 p.m. July 20, 2013, at the First Christian Church in Monett with Reverend Ron Stair officiating. Interment will be in the Harvey Cemetery in LaRussell, Mo., with Rev. Charles Chrisman officiating. Her nieces and nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Online condolences can be made at www.buchananfuneralhomemonett.com.
