  • Owen Hurt, 75, passed away July 15, 2013 at his home outside Carthage surrounded by his loving family and friends.
    Owen was born in Wright City, Mo., on March 2, 1938 to Eliga and Opal Hurt. Owen was a Carthage resident since 1977. He managed convenience stores in Springfield and Carthage then worked at Leggett & Platt for 15 years.
    Owen attended the Grand Avenue Church of God. He was a member of the Ozark Hillbilly Beemers motorcycle club and the Neosho Bee-Keepers Club.
    Owen was united in marriage to Fern Leighty on June 4, 1958 in Mountain Grove, Mo; she survives.
    Owen is survived by one daughter Pam Leek and husband Mark of Carthage. One grandson Matthew Leek and wife Autumn, one great grandson Olijah Leek.
    Owen is preceded by one sister Imogene Barnes and one brother Newell Hurt.
     Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the Grand Avenue Church of God, Carthage, Mo.
    Visitation will be 6-7 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2013 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Interment will be at Hackney Cemetery.
