  • Victor F. Walter, 93, passed away on July 11, 2013 at St. Luke’s Nursing Center in Carthage, Mo.
    Victor was born on Jan. 20, 1920 to Fred Walter and Katherine (Ostermiller) Walter in Lincoln, Neb. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II in the Pacific with the 115th Combat Engineer Battalion, 40th Infantry Division. Victor retired as a signal maintainer with the Burlington Northern Railroad after 43 years of service in 1986. He was a life-long member of the Lutheran faith.
    Victor was united in marriage with Catherine Riggs on June 19, 1947 in Lincoln, Neb.; she preceded him in death.
    Victor is survived by son, James Walter and wife, Susan of Carthage, Mo., daughter, Shawn Walter of Denver, Colo., and son, Tad Walter and wife, Linda of Fox Point Wisc. Grandchildren are: Shannon Vandaveer, Leslie Banta, Christopher Walter, Beatrix Walter, Owen Walter, Anastasia Walter and Alex Walter. Great-grandchildren are: Riley, Emily and Abigail Vandeaveer, Thomas, Harmony and Evan Banta, Nora, Natalie and Jack Walter. He is also survived by one brother Glen Walter of Greely, Colo.
    In addition to his wife, Victor was preceded by a grandson Colin James Walter and granddaughter Mary Katherine Walter.
    A memorial service is planned in Scottsbluff, Neb., at a later date. Interment will be at the Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Neb.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice in Victor’s memory.
    The family of Victor Walter wishes to thank the staff of St. Luke’s Nursing Center for the care and kindness shown to their father over the last year.
