For years, the Oak Street Health & Herbs LLC, has been on ... well, Oak Street.

Owner Tiffany Malcolm and part-owner (and fiancé) Bob Samuels wanted to keep the name while growing the local business. As they continue to renovate and beautify their new location on Fairlawn Drive, the name has slightly changed to Oak Street Natural Market. The shop opened June 25, and a grand opening celebration is set for Aug. 2-3.

“We wanted to honor the store but make it sound like more of what we are now,” Tiffany said. “I think in this community, it means a lot to people to remember that. It’s also a great way to also tell people how we started.”

Tiffany has operated the business for a little over seven years. Before her, Mary Ann Willis ran the shop for 11 years.

“I have really enjoyed the research; it’s become a passion really,” Tiffany said of her work involving the shop. “Moving a store is a ton of work. The inside is all done by us, which is great because we can make it the way we want … It’s been a long process but it’s going to be worth it.”

New features the former shop couldn’t accommodate are: a kitchen and larger produce section. Tiffany said her supplements selection has grown 20 percent as well as her grocery items. Something she said her customers are excited about is the new kitchen, which will serve smoothies, juices, homemade yogurt, hummus and crackers.

The shop also carries a wide variety of herbs, proteins, natural beauty products and mineral make-up. Coordinating with local farmers, Tiffany said her shop will have organic produce and local meats.

“Basically clean,” she said. “You get the food, not the additives. We also carry some of the freshest salmon I’ve ever tasted. It comes from an Alaskan family that fishes once a year.”

Grand opening weekend, Aug. 2-3, the shop will celebrate with vendors, samples, demonstrations and prizes.
