Dale Looney, with the Carthage Kiwanis Club, said the hot weather is forcing the club to open Kiddieland later in the day.
Looney said Kiddieland will open at 5 p.m. and volunteer club members will remain until kids and family members have left, or 8 p.m., which ever is later.
“We'll stay open until everyone has had a chance to ride, but if no one is around and it doesn't look like anyone else is coming around 7 p.m., we'll go ahead and go home,” Looney said.
Normal days of operation are Saturday and Sunday and holidays in the summer.
The classic amusement park, located at Carthage's Municipal Park on West Oak Street, will be open on Thursday, July 4 for kids to ride the train and the other classic rides. Looney said volunteers will open the park at 5 p.m. on July 4.
All rides are 50 cents each and the proceeds are used by the Kiwanis Club to support a variety of causes for young people, including the Cerebral Palsy Center of Tri-County, Jasper County Widowed Women and Associates baby quilt program and others.
