Rilda B. Whitehead, 80, passed away June 5, 2013 at Freeman Hospital.
Rilda was born July 26, 1932 in Carthage to J. Winfred Carter and Ruth Ella “Southern” Carter. She was a life-time Carthage resident, graduating from Carthage High School Class of 1950. She then attended Joplin Jr. College then Pittsburg State College where she received a bachelor’s of associates in education.
Rilda began her teaching career teaching in rural schools alongside her mother then spent her last 17 years teaching fourth grade at Columbia school in Carthage. She was a member of the (MRTA) Missouri Retired Teachers Association. Rilda was a member of the Victory Baptist church where she taught for 32 years.
Rilda was united in marriage to Donald Aug. 12, 1951 at the Methodist church of Carthage he preceeded her in death May 8, 2009.
Rilda is survived by one daughter Kem March and Husband Kenny and one son Steven Whitehead and wife Joan all of Carthage. Five grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2013 at the Ulmer Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2013 at the Ulmer Funeral Home. Burial will be at Oak hill cemetery.
