Amelia Jenks Bloomer born
Amelia Jenks was born on May 27, 1818. Married to a progressive Quaker, she began writing about prohibition, women's rights, and women's fashions. Although she didn't invent the syle, ankle-length pantaloons were soon called Bloomers because Amelia continued to wear them long after they were fashionable.
