New faces are behind a name that has been in Carthage a long time.
Ernest and Michelle Freeman took over the two locations of Sports World on March 1. The Monett couple said taking on the Cassville and Carthage stores was an acceptable challenge.
“Sports World is a very well-established business in not only our community, but in Carthage as well,” Ernest said. “Having a well-thought-of business has made it an easy transition.”
Ernest has owned and operated RWTB Family Martial Arts School since 2001 in Cassville, and Michelle has been a paralegal since 1996.
“It's been interesting – quite different,” Michelle said with a smile, already with a ball season under her belt. “Carthage has been like a second home for us.”
Sports World will continue to carry athletic attire, equipment and lettermans' jackets, but Michelle said she's excited to add to the selection. The Freemans hope to expand the merchandise in women's cut shirts, surrounding towns logos, hats, shoes and novelty items like jewelry and mugs.
Sports World services will not only appeal to sports teams, but local businesses as well. Ernest said well-represented companies can look uniform and approachable for an affordable price.
“Screen printing and embroidery on employees' shirts not only help identify them, but gives them a professional look,” he said. “And businesses will be surprised how inexpensive it is. I think it's one of the best forms of advertizing.”
Sports World will maintain the same staff with the addition of Trey Treadwell, who has a fresh look at Carthage designs. The Carthage store is located next to Humble Pie at 2430 Grand Ave., and may be reached at 358-1155.
