Hershel Lavon Jones, 88, of Carthage, went home to be with his Lord on May 16, 2013.
Hershel was born Sept. 12, 1924 to Newt and Cora Jones in Miller.
He served his country in the United States Army from 1943-1945, where he received a Bronze Metal and Purple Heart. He worked for Carthage Marble for many years.
Hershel was united in marriage to Wanda Epperson on June 4, 1951 in Eureka Springs, Ark. She preceded him in death on April 30, 2006.
Hershel is survived by one daughter Lavona Pennington of Avilla, three sons Ron Jones of Texas, Dale Jones of Carthage and Michael Jones of Oklahoma. Nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. One brother Darryl Reed of Willard.
Hershel was preceded by three sisters Bernice Reed, Norma Bowman and Edith Jones, four step brothers and his favorite nephew and best friend Jim Reed.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Fellowship Cemetery Rescue, Missouri. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2013 at the home of Jerry Pennington Jr. 6905 Inlet Lane, Reeds, Missouri.
