Harvey J. Coiner, Lebanon, Mo., formerly of Carthage, Mo., passed away at the age of 91 in Springfield, Mo., on May 16, 2013.

Harvey J. Coiner, Lebanon, Mo., formerly of Carthage, Mo., passed away at the age of 91 in Springfield, Mo., on May 16, 2013.

He was born to Myrtle Owen Coiner and Harvey E. Coiner of Jasper, MO. His father passed away Feb. 18, 1922 preceding his birth on May 8, 1922 in Carthage. His mother, and brothers, Loyd and Marvin Coiner moved to Carthage from their family farm shortly before his birth.

Harvey’s mother then married Ernest McCracken of Farlington, KS, when Harvey was 7 years old. Harvey accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior when he was 12 years old at the First Baptist Church of Carthage. He attended Carthage schools, graduating from Carthage High School in 1940. He married Marcella Peek of Carl Junction, Mo., on June 6, 1943. Marcella preceded him in death in 1985.

Harvey worked for the Miller Clothing Store, the Atlas Powder Plant (during WWII), the Howard Hull & Company, Kansas City, MO, the Cordonnier Sales Company, the Cordonnier Gas Company and the Carthage Water and Electric Plant in Carthage. He retired from the Missouri Ozark s Community Action Agency, Richland, Mo., in 1991.

Harvey and Marcella were members and active volunteers in the First Baptist Church, Carthage, including working with the Royal Ambassadors and interpreting for the deaf.  They were active members in the First Baptist Church of Lebanon, Mo., while residing there.

Harvey was preceded in death by his wife, Marcella Peek Coiner, parents, Harvey E. and Myrtle Coiner, brother, step-father, Ernest McCracken, brother, Loyd O. (Mildred) Coiner, brother, Marvin (Mary) Coiner and nephew, Loyd L. Coiner.  

Harvey is survived by several nieces; Beverley Coiner, Nixa, Mo., Myrna Coiner, Carthage, Mo., Shirley (Bob) Collins, Springfield, MO, Norma (Phil) Jones, Nixa, Mo., Nancy Honeycutt, Van Buren, AR, Janice Coiner, Alma, AR and nephew, Ron Coiner, Mountain Center, CA, as well as many great nieces and great nephews; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Peek Lee, Englewood, FL and Jean Peek, Webb City, Mo.; several nephews and nieces from his wife’s family and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, May 22 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage, Mo. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. Rev. Ron Franklin will officiate.  Interment will be in Paradise Cemetery, north of Carthage.
