I read The Great Gatsby in high school. It’s one of the few forced reading assignments that I actually remember enjoying. Which is why when the movie was released recently I had to see it. I am usually leery of movies based on novels, (especially novels that I enjoy) but this one was quite good. Though the movie has a modern feel to it in speed and stamina, the actual storyline from the novel is in tact. So even though the characters dance to modern music, none of the storyline or theme is lost. It is The Great Gatsby through and through. The point of the novel is subtle, but the movie come right out and says it. Though many people I’m sure will appreciate the directness.
