  • Irene Hancock, 80, Carthage, passed away Thursday, May 02, 2013 at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, MO.  
    Florence Irene Riddle was born Dec. 3, 1932 in Barry County, Mo.; the daughter of the late Elva Riddle and Stella Maye Taylor Riddle.  She was a 1951 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School, Mt. Vernon, MO, worked at the Sarcoxie Shoe Factory till 1956 and married Price Alan Hancock on March 31, 1956; he preceded her in death on May 5, 2006.  
    Irene was a member of the Jasper County Farm Bureau, past president of the Jasper County PTA and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Carthage.  She received the Missouri Farm Bureau, Farm Wife of the Year Award, in 1984.  
    Irene loved playing card games of Pitch with her friends, a mean game of Dominos (Double 12’s) with her husband, Alan and kids, and Uno with her grandchildren. A great enjoyment to her was tending to her flowers around the farm.
    Survivors include two daughters; Ronda Gail Kreutzer, Carthage and Gloria DeVillers, Carthage; two sons, James Alan (Tracey) Hancock, El Reno, Okla., and John Mark Hancock, St. Joseph, Mo.; two sisters, Barbara Jean Batson, Pierce City, Mo., and Sharon Kay (Gary) Wood, Birch Tree, Mo.; two brothers, Richard (Diane) Riddle, Holt, Mo., and Ronnie Riddle, Jasper, Mo.; seven grandchildren, CPL Dustin DeVillers, USMC, Phillip DeVillers, Russell (Ronda) Kreutzer, Rachel Kreutzer, Justin (Sarah) Hancock, Kelsey (Josh) Westerhold and Jessie Hancock.  Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alan Hancock, four sisters, Marzella Sapp, Rosella Lipp, Darlene Brown, Roberta Miller and four brothes, James, Doyle, Jerry and Leroy Riddle.
    Visitation will be held from 2–3 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2013 at the Knell Mortuary, Carthage.  Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 6 in Fullerton Cemetery, south of Carthage.  Memorial gifts are suggested to the donor’s charity of choice.  Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com. Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Knell Mortuary, Carthage, MO.
