John Duane O’Kelley, 65, passed away April 29, 2013.
John was born Aug. 22, 1947 in Crawford Neb., to John Henry O’Kelley and Corinne Elizabeth Bartholoma O’Kelley.
John was in the Army Reserves during the Vietnam era from 1965 to 1974. John received a bachelors of animal science degree from Berry College Rome, Georgia, and was currently enrolled as a graduate student at Missouri State University Springfield, Mo.
John moved to Missouri from South Carolina in 1989. He was a retired over the road truck driver. He drove for the Yellow Roadway Corporation. John farmed and loved farming. He was a member of the Avilla Baptist Church.
John was united in marriage to Frances Rochester Dec. 27, 1968 in Walhalla, S.C.; she survives.
John is survived by two daughters Wendy Marie Shindledecker and her husband Scott of Durham, N.C., and Christel Lee O’Kelley of Azusa, Calif. One son Timothy Duane O’Kelley and wife Carolyn of Springfield, Mo. Four grandchildren Micah Stiles Martin, Coral Pongsuwan, Alyssa E. O’Kelley and Megan E. O’Kelley. Two sisters Betty Moss and husband Wayne of Salem, S.C., and Dr. Sharon K. O’Kelley and Nancy of Florence, S.C., Two brothers Stanley O’Kelley and wife Jan of Talking Rock Georgia and James Elden O’Kelley and wife Wanda of Salem, S.C.
John was preceded by his parents and his sister Linda Lee O’Kelley. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Avilla, MO. Visitation is 6-7 p.m. Friday, May 3,2013 at the Ulmer Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Avilla Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church of Avilla care of Ulmer Funeral Home.
