  • At noon, Thursday on the South Side of the Jasper County Courthouse, the Ministerial Alliance and anyone else who wishes to attend, will celebrate the National Day of Prayer.
This is an annual nation-wide event in America.
National days of prayer have been a part of America even during its Colonial days and since it became the United States. Benjamin Franklin said at the Constitutional Convention, “We have been assured, Sir, in the Sacred Writings that except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it. I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without his concurring aid, we shall succeed in this political building no better than the builders of Babel."
From George Washington to the present, national days of prayer have been declared by American Presidents. George Washington said in his farewell speech at the end of his presidency, “Of all the habits and dispositions which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great pillars."
The National Day of Prayer was enacted in 1952. It was re-energized in the 1990’s by Shirley Dobson, wife of Focus on the Family’s founder James Dobson.
Millions of Americans will meet at their county courthouse or other places on the first Thursday in May to pray for their nation, our officials, their fellow Americans and celebrate our religious freedom and Christian principled roots from the Pilgrims to today.
At noon on Thursday at the Jasper County Courthouse south lawn(or inside if the weather is inclement.
