Betty Jean Evans, 77, passed away at 12:35 p.m. Tuesday April 9, 2013 at her home in Kansas City, Mo., following a long illness. She was in the loving care of her family and nurse Nancy McKim.
Betty was born Jan. 5, 1936 in LaCygne, Kan. She was the daughter of the late Irvin and Mary “Mills” Wright. She lived most of her adult life in the Grandview/Kansas City area before moving to a farm outside of Jasper, Mo., in 1983. She moved back to the Kansas City in 1994. She was an accountant at a number of businesses during her career and was awarded the Certificate of Excellence for the Council of Business Managers from the General Motors Corporation four times. Betty retired in 1955.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grandview, Mo., and a member of the Royal Neighbors of America.
Betty was married to James Simpson, Jr. from 1951 until 1968. She married Fred Andrew Evans on May 24, 1975 in Grandview, Mo. Betty is survived by three children, Betty (Gig)”Simpson” Howard of Belton, Mo. Deborah (Debbie) ”Simpson” Waters of Kansas City, Mo., and Dennis (Denny) Simpson of Kansas City, Mo. Six grandchildren, Melissa McCune, Diana Dalton, Debra Howard, Robin Ames, Chelsea Wattson and Dustin Waters, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, 1922-1993, her three sisters; Mary “Wright” Daniels, 1938-1985, Dorothy Wright 1934, and baby girl Wright, 1932.
Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Sunday April 14, 2013 at Paradise Cemetery south of Jasper just off US 71 on Baseline road. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Sunday April 14, 2013 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Her Grandson-in-law, Richard McCune will officiate the service. The family has requested casual dress.
