William Dorse Pippin, 95, Carthage, Mo., passed away Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, Mo., following a short illness.
Dorse, as he was known, was born on April 22, 1917 at Ongo, Mo. to the late Joe Robertson Pippin and Minnie Ethel Adams Pippin. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World Warr II, and honorably discharged as a corporal on January 21, 1946.
He had lived in Carthage for many years, and retired from Carthage Marble as a Mill Foremen. He greatly enjoyed being outdoors, especially when gardening. He also liked woodworking and would sell his crafts in various places. He was also known for his carpentry and mechanical skills.
Dorse was converted and baptized at a young age, and was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Carthage. He enjoyed country music, and liked old time gospel singing.
He married Doris Hicks on July 11, 1965 in the First Baptist Church of Carthage.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Pippin, of their home; children, Clell Pippin(Linda) of Mount Vernon, Mo., Willard Pippin (Laurie) of Reeds, Mo., Bill Pippin of Stark, Mo., Faye Ellis (L.J.) of Carthage, Toni Aldridge (Joe) of Carthage, Terry Thompson (Sherry) of Joplin, Mo., Larry Thompson (Patty) of Webb City, Mo., Rose Pippin of Mount Vernon, Mo., Debra Yeager (Jeff) of Aurora, Mo., and Jackie McPherson (Keith) of Virginia Beach, Va.; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends who will miss him very much.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Knell Mortuary. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday immediately following visitation.
