A benefit has been set for the families of a tragic accident that happened Feb. 2 near Nevada. A traffic accident claimed the life of Landree Heese, 7, of Avilla, and severely injured her father, Andrew Heese, and Daniel Castor. Two other children, Averi Heese and Kip Castor, were also in the vehicle but received minor injuries. The accident happened within seconds when a short rain turned to black ice on the highway; 25 other accidents happened that morning all within 15 minutes of each other.
Since the accident, Andrew has been unable to walk.
To help the families recovery, the community will come together for an event set for 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, April 7 at Lucky J Steakhouse & Arena, east of Carthage. There will be live bands including Missouri Coilition, Livewire and Center Creek Sinners, food and a silent auction.
The live auction will begin at 2 p.m., which will include “Knot Yours,” a horse sculpture donated by local artist Rachel Wilson, valued at $6,500.
Tickets for the event are $20, and will include admission, entertainment and the food, provided by Boomer Sooners, B&C Catering, Dave Trumbore, Jeff Ummel, John Bartosh and more.
All proceeds will go toward the Heese and Castor families – donors may choose designated families, if not both. All donations not designated will be split between the families.
