  • A current fundraiser has come just in time to trim a freshly-watered lawn from April's showers.
The Carthage Lions Club is currently selling tickets to raffle a 2013 Zero Turn Cub Cadet mower from Race Brothers Farm & Home Supply. This fundraiser will help the club continue to give glasses to Carthage students in need. So far this year, the club has given 43 pair of glasses.
“We thought this raffle would help give our club a boost to help continuing our help to these children,” said Lions Club member Nellie Holzwarth. “And if this does well, we'll next raffle a barbecue grill.”
To purchase a ticket, the Lions Club will be represented at Race Brothers on Saturday, or those interested may call the Holzwarths at 358-6175, Jim at 388-5704, or Randy at 417-850-5933. There is a 300-ticket limit on the fundraiser, and the mower will be given away at the end of May.
Last year, the Lions Club gave 36 pairs of glasses to Carthage students in need. The club coordinates with school nurses and Carthage Walmart Vision Center. The club also helps establish families with seeing-eye dogs, diabetes patients and other unique circumstances in need of help. The Lions Club also sets up fundraisers at the annual Fourth of July and Maple Leaf celebrations.
    New members are always welcome.
