Helen B. Jackson, 98, of Carthage passed away at 6: 27 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Carthage Health and Rehab.
Helen was born May 12, 1914 in Belefonte, Ark. She was the daughter of Elmer M. Dreier and Lillie Grace “Stepp” Dreier. Helen received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kan., and her Master’s Degree from Wichita State University in Wichita, Kan.
She was an Elementary School Teacher at Ames, Glasco, Plainville and Wichita, Kan.
Helen lived in Wichita from 1962 to 1995 and moved to Carthage in 1995. She was in the Alpha Beta Study Club in Plainville, Kan., the International Reading Association of Wichita, Kan., and won the “Reading Teacher of the Year” Award-1974 in Wichita.
Helen was a member of the First Christian Church in Carthage. She was a member of the Mr. and Mrs. Sunday School class and was very active in Sunday School and church organizations.
Helen was united in marriage to Arlie V. Jackson on April 5, 1941 in Topeka, Kan. He preceded her in death on May 3, 2001.
Helen is survived by two daughters, Judy Smith of Carthage and Donna M. McAfee of Wichita, Kansas, one brother, Keith Dreier of Grove, Okla., three sisters, Bobette Stukey of Carthage, Val Milliken of Carthage and Mary Raff of Redmond, Ore., and their families. She was preceded in death by one brother, Ray Dreier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 25, 2013 at Ulmer Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 3-4 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2013. Graveside services will be 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Pleasantview Cemetery in Palco, Kan.
