  • Due to popular demand, the Carthage Goodwill store will continue to operate as a second store to serve the Joplin and Carthage communities.
In October 2011, the location opened at 100 W. George E. Phelps Blvd., Carthage, as a temporary store. A year later, the future of the store was announced uncertain. At the beginning of this year, Goodwill Inc., announced the Carthage store will remain in service as the Joplin store celebrates a grand re-opening. A new crew, led by recently-promoted Evelyn Keller, will provide the Goodwill service in Carthage.
“We were welcomed by the community and received many phone calls about keeping the store in Carthage,” said Rita Gilliam, director of retail sales for Goodwill Inc., in Tulsa, Okla. “We hope we will grow in Carthage; there is good potential and a great location. People have been excited for two locations in close proximity to each other.”
The Joplin Goodwill store and donation center, 2102 Range Line Road, will hold a ribbon cutting at 8:45 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 at the Joplin Chamber of Commerce. Chances to win prizes at the Joplin Goodwill store will begin at 9 a.m., and continue through March 2. The new store will be stocked full of wonderful fashions for ladies, men and children. Shoppers will also find a wide selection of shoes, purses, housewares, books, collectibles and more.
Attendants will be on hand in the new donation drive-through to accept donations of gently-used clothing and small household items. An attendant will be on duty during regular business hours to assist donors and provide a donation receipt.
On Saturday at the Carthage Goodwill, a half-priced sale will begin at 8 a.m., lasting all day to 6:30 p.m. This one-day sale only happens four times a year, with the next one taking place in May.
Goodwill Industries is a non-profit organization that provides work opportunities, job training, and support services for people with disabilities or other employment barriers.
The revenue from the sale of donated goods helps to fund Goodwill training programs and services. Goodwill generates revenue to put people to work providing … A hand-up, not a hand-out!
    The store and attended storefront donation center are open Monday – Saturday 9 a.m. – 6:30 p.m., and Sunday 1– 6 p.m.
