Roger Leroy Hurrell passed away at his home in Golden City, Mo., on Monday, Feb. 11, 2013.
Roger was born on Nov. 30, 1940 in Golden City, Mo. He graduated from Golden City High School in 1958 and went on to become an Air Force recruiter, traveling the world. Roger retired from the Air Force in 1979 after 20 years of service. Roger was very passionate about music, having several bands while in the military and later in private life. He played the lead guitar and bass and also sang lead vocals. He then went on to have a career in trucking, hauling various commodities, but hauling milk was by far his favorite. He loved being the “milk man”.
Roger is survived by a brother Randy Tod Hurrell and family of Joplin, a daughter, Dianna M. Staye of Golden City, two sons, Roger Scott Hurrell and wife Jeanne of Carthage, Adam P. Hurrell of Joplin, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents Gaylord Leroy Hurrell, Bonnie Marie Hurrell Disney, and a brother Richard Allen Hurrell.
The body will be cremated per Roger’s wishes and his ashes will be interred at the Pippengers Cemetary outside of Golden City.
A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Golden City on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 10 am. where he was a member. Memorial contributions can be made in his honor to the American Diabetes Association.
