Mary Lou Orahood, 76, Carthage, Mo., passed away Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, Mo., following a brief illness.
Mary was born May 3, 1936 at Carthage, Mo., to the late Glen Morris and Dorothy Ford Morris. She married Ralph Cletis Orahood on June 4, 1953 at Lamar, Mo., and three children were born to this union.
She lived most of her life in Carthage, and worked numerous jobs since she was 15 years of age.
Mary was converted and baptized at a young age, and was a long time member of Grace Pointe Assembly of God Church in Carthage. She enjoyed gardening, watching the hummingbirds she fed, and the other wild birds that visited her feeders. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed puzzles. She liked to play cards with her best friend and neighbor, Jackie Crihfield.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Cletis Orahood, on Feb. 26, 2008.
She is survived by her children, Debra Jeffries of Carthage, MO, David A. Orahood and his wife, Janice, of Joplin, MO, and Matthew R. Orahood of Carthage, MO; three sisters, Peggy Woods, and her husband, Bill, of Golden City, MO, Dixie Spry of Carthage, MO, and Melody Neve and her husband, Craig, of Joplin, MO; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a special friend and neighbor, Jackie Crihfield; other relatives and friends who will miss her very much.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Grace Pointe Church in Carthage, Mo., with Ron Blauvelt officiating. A private burial will be scheduled at a later date.
