One man was stabbed in the leg and his alleged assailant was arrested after a fight that happened in an alley between two downtown Carthage bars around midnight Saturday night.
The Carthage Police Department said Kaleb Spry, Carthage, was taken to Freeman West Hospital in Joplin after the incident that was reported to Carthage police at 11:55 a.m. on Saturday.
Steven Michael Sloniker, Carthage, was arrested shortly after the incident and charged with felony first degree assault. He was still in custody on Monday in the Jasper County Jail on $10,000 bond.
Carthage police said the incident appeared to be a fight that started in one of the bars in the area and continued into the alley behind the Triple L Bar, 418 Grant St., Carthage.
Police said Spry received non-life-threatening injuries to his leg.
“During interviews with witnesses at the scene, a suspect was identified, and deputies with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, located and detained Steven Michael Sloniker,” police said in a written release. “After further investigation by detectives with the police department, Sloniker was arrested for felonious assault.” Police said Judge Gail Crane issued the warrant charging Sloniker with one count of first degree assault.
