Robert D. Hutchins, 91, Carthage, Mo., passed away Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 at Carthage Health and Rehab following an extended illness.
Robert was born Nov. 4, 1921 in Arkansas to the late Roy Dillard and Lora Jane Hutchins. He lived most of his life in Carthage and graduated from Carthage High School. After graduation, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country during World War II. During that time, he met and married his wife, Sara Dunlap. Four children were born to this union.
In 1945, he began his career as a master automobile mechanic. In 1960 he answered the call to become an ordained Baptist minister of the gospel. He faithfully served as a minister for over fifty years, and took great pleasure in spreading the gospel and leading many people to Christ. He spent his retirement years in Carthage with a hobby of building and flying ultralight airplanes. He continued this hobby until he was 90 years of age. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a passionate pastor, and an avid aviation enthusiast.
He is survived by his wife, Sara Hutchins of their home; his children, Sara Hensley of Cleveland, Tenn., Roberta Wright of Albuquerque, N.M., Robert Hutchins, Jr. of Carthage, Mo., and Lora Smith of Trophy Club, Texas; nine grandchildren, Tyler Crawford of Switzerland, Hugh Crawford, II of Joplin, Mo., Beth Ford of Chattanooga, Tenn., Ethan Hensley of Cleveland, Tenn., Travis Rodebush of Dillon, Mont., Jinny Deluca of Phoenix, Ariz., Holly Hutchins of Lamar, Mo., Amber Camacho of San Bernardino, Calif., and Angel Wright of Tempe, Ariz.; 13 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends who will miss him very much.
Visitation for Robert D. Hutchins will be 6 – 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage, MO. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013 at Knell Mortuary. Interment will be in Park Cemetery, Carthage. Online condolences may be expressed at www.knellmortuary.com.
