  • With two months to go in the fundraising campaign, the Carthage Area United Way announced Thursday the organization was 75 percent to its goal.
The United Way team set the 2012/2013 fundraising goal at $300,000 this year. The local funds raised in the campaign stay local – helping those in need through 13 area agencies and organizations. During the mid-year report luncheon on Thursday, the leaders tallied their funds raised thus far to be $223,237 – which is 75 percent to the goal.
"To me coming to a smaller community like Carthage and knowing where the money is going is very big for me," said Bob Goar, the campaign chair for the United Way. "I thank everyone for their efforts and support."
In the coming weeks, locals may contribute to the United Way by participating in drawings at Carthage High School home basketball games and wrestling matches. The United Way student advocates at the high school will also have additional fundraisers.
"I'm feeling very optimistic," said Jenny Mansfield, executive director of the United Way. "Seventy-five percent is like 'Merry Christmas.'"
The next report meeting for the United Way is set for noon Jan. 31 at the Carthage Water & Electric community room.
To make donations, the United Way office is located at 616 W. Centennial, P.O. Box 250, Carthage, MO 64836. For more information, call 358-2948.
To learn more about the 13 area agencies, in addition to the student advocates, drop by The Press office and view the United Way series of articles that were published Nov. 11-Nov. 30 (today).
