    Calling Collectors
    The Barton-Jasper County Collectors Association will be sponsoring the 20th Annual Fall Coin, Stamp, Postcards, Sports Card and Collectibles Show at the Carthage Memorial Hall Dec. 1-2. From 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, and from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 2, dealers from Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas will fill the Memorial Hall. Admission is free.     Holiday Shopping
    First Presbyterian Church, 115 W. Chestnut, Carthage is hosting their first Christmas Bazaar/Craft Fair on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. Admission is free to view 15-20 booths offering a wide variety of Christmas gift items. The community is invited to come and shop for holiday gifts and crafts and also enjoy either breakfast or lunch served by the church's youth with meal proceeds to go toward youth projects.
    Breakfast is served from 8-11 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Please call the church office at 417-358-2341 for more information.
    More Shopping
    For the first year, St. Luke's Nursing Center will host a Holiday Bazaar Saturday, Dec. 1 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Admission is free and event is open to the public. St. Luke's is located at 1220 E. Fairview Ave., Carthage. For more information, call 358-9084.
    Chamber news
    Ongoing into Saturday, the Christmas Open House will involve many local shopping outlets.
    Discount cards are available at all participating locations and at the Carthage Chamber of Commerce, 402 South Garrison. Participating locations include; All Things Grand, Carthage Art Walk, Carthage True Value, Cloud’s Meat Market, Galbraith’s Paint and Floor, Grand Ave Bed & Breakfast, Judy’s Hallmark, Koka Art Gallery, Lowe’s, Pancake Hut, The Pavilion-Sacry Medical Spa, Powers Museum, Race Brothers Farm & Home, Repurpose Boutique, Sheer Salon and Day Spa and The White Rose Winery and B&B.
    Historic Fun
    The Carthage Historic Preservation is pleased to announce the Christmas Homes Tour is set for Saturday, Dec. 1. From 10 a.m.-4 p.m., members of the community are invited to come enjoy local homes during the holiday. Tickets are $20.
    High Tea will be available by reservation only from 1-5 p.m., at the Historic Phelps House for $10.

    A benefit for Keith and Misty McMorrow will be held from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., at the Triple L Irish Pub & Grill, 418 Grant St. For information, call 529-8466.
    In Joplin
    A benefit talent show to raise money for the Joplin Fire Department's Toys for Tots program providing Christmas presents for underprivileged children will be held 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at East Middle School.
    Those scheduled to perform include the EMS Show Choir, Band, Cheerleaders, Flag Squad, the Cady Family, Skye Smith, Natural Disaster, and the Victorymen, with more acts to be announced later. Gift baskets will be available for silent auction, including one with a Kindle Touch, others with various food, movie, craft, and Christmas gift items, and one featuring all six of Randy Turner's books from Small Town News through Spirit of Hope: The Year After the Joplin Tornado.
    The money will be used by the EMS Student Council to buy toys, which will then be presented to the Fire Department to give to the children.
    Love Nature
    The Wildcat Glades Conservation and Audubon Center, in Joplin, has set a Winter Birds and Bird feeding from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. For more information, call 417-782-6287.
