  • For the fourth year, a community packing party was held at Fairview Christian Church on Saturday, Nov. 10.
Della Bergen and her daughter, Lyndse Ballew, led Operation Christmas Child again this year, which packed 712 shoeboxes, but this time with a new addition to the family: Ballew's daughter, 11-month-old Adelaide. Ballew said the family has been packing shoeboxes to send overseas to children in need for 16 years.
The effort, coordinated by Samaritan’s Purse, celebrated its one millionth shoebox this year that sends not only items of use, but hope to children in third world countries.
The goal this year for the community packing party at Fairview Christian Church was 1,500 shoeboxes.
Another group of members from Forest Park-North campus packed shoeboxes as well on Nov. 10 at the Carthage campus currently under construction. Ballew said their goal was 7,500, and they nearly reached it, packing 7,480 shoeboxes.
Some of the countries that benefit from this effort are: Brazil, Columbia, Haiti, Niger, Uganda and Togo.
